Sarnath Stupa & Museum :-

Sarnath Museum – Sarnath museum is the oldest site museum of the Archaeological survey of India. Sarnath is located near Varanasi. Sarnath is famous for Buddhism where God Buddha gave his first sermon. Sarnath has yielded a rich collection of sculptures artefacts and edifices comprising numerous Buddha and Bodhisattva images and other ancient remains. Finest specimens of Buddhist art and other important remains have been housed at the museum. This is famous original sandstone sculpted Lion Capital of Ashoka preserved at Sarnath museum, which was originally erected around 250 BCE atop an Ashoka Pillar at srnath.


Sarnath Stupa- Sarnath stupa called Dhamek stupa. Dhamek stupa marks the precise location where the Buddha preached his first discourse to his first five disciple ( Kaundinya, Assaji, Bhaddiya, Vappa and Mahanama), and where all five eventually become fully liberated. Current shape, the Stupa is a solid cylinder of bricks and stone reaching a height of 43.6 meters and having diameter of 28 meters.
